General Information of the Purchasing Department
The Purchasing Agent is directly responsible for the procurement of goods and services rendered the Township. The Purchasing Agent maintains a centralized purchasing system for all offices and departments, and also oversees the solicitation of competitive bids required by the Local Public Contracts Law. In 1999, the Purchasing Department processed 1,638 requisitions and issued 1,076 Purchase Orders.
Major purchases made by the Township Purchasing Agent in 1999 were an updated AS400 computer and an HP Laser Color 4500 printer for our Finance Department; 5,000 birth certificates and 5,000 death/marriage certificates for our Registrar; 25,000 traffic tickets for our Court, 210 cubic yards top soil, 250 tons of infield mix, 25 tons of sand, and 7,860 pounds of fertilizer/athletic field mix for our parks; 53 vehicle batteries for our fleet; 1,800 dog license tags and 400 cat license tags for Health; 717 tons of rock salt and 100 sweeper brooms for streets and sewer; 275 pounds of waste digester for the pump house; 5 computer work stations for the Building Department; 5 Ford Crown Victoria automobiles, 67 portable radios, a new Dictaphone voice recording system and 24 computer workstations for our Police; new play structures in Terhune and Tryon parks, and 2,250 gallons calcium chloride for pools. In 1999 the Purchasing Agent finalized the delivery arrangements for the Township's new 100 ft. Custom aerial ladder truck and we also purchased 2 additional 6/8 cubic yard dump trucks with snow plows and spreaders for our DPW
The Township is a firm believer in the concepts of cooperative purchasing and is a contributing partner and participant in both New Jersey's State Cooperative Purchasing Program and Bergen County's Cooperative Pricing System. Ordering equipment, supplies and services through New Jersey's State Cooperative Purchasing Program and Bergen County's Cooperative Pricing System enabled the Township to secure better pricing since our needs were combined with the needs of other participant members.
In June 1999, the Township Purchasing Agent conducted the Township's Annual Spring Auction of unusable and obsolete equipment and supplies generated front all Township departments, including bicycles confiscated by our Police. This event netted the Township $1,515.00
Additionally, the Purchasing Agent ran a Joint cooperative Vehicle Auction, on behalf of the Township of Teaneck and the Borough of Bogota. The Township share of revenue produced by this eent totaled $18,225.00. Items offered for sale at this auction included Chevy Caprice police Cars, GMC pick-up trucks, street sweepers, and a Pontiac Sunbird wagon.

The Purchasing Department is responsible for the procurement of all Township equipment, supplies and services; helps monitor department, supplies and services; help monitor departmental budgets and spending; and serves as the Township's Accounts Payable liaison with vendors.
The Purchasing Agent monitors Township compliance with the Local Public contracts Law, help develop bid specifications, and oversees all Public Bid Openings.
The department also conducts Public Auctions of surplus Township equipment and supplies. The Purchasing Agent also is the Township's liaison with the New Jersey State Cooperative Purchasing Program and the Bergen County Cooperative Purchasing System.
Currently the Purchasing Agent serves as the Secretary of the Teaneck Self-Insurance Fund Commission.
